Data is presented on Austrian press and book production. On the one hand, the focus is on the number, circulation and reach of Austrian daily newspapers, as well as on federal press subsidies. The data sources are statistical and administrative data from various bodies (Association of Austrian Newspapers, Austrian Circulation Control, Media-Analysis Working Group, Communications Authority Austria), most of which are published by these organisations themselves.
On the other hand, the statistics cover newly published book titles and university theses (dissertations), which are recorded and analysed by the Austrian National Library as part of the Austrian Bibliography.
