A total of 8.2 million tonnes (t) of goods was hauled
as freight transport on the Austrian
section of the Danube in the year 2020. Compared to 2019 this was a
decrease of 0.3 million t resp. 3.1%. The total transport
performance (i.e. the product of transport volume and distance
travelled) was 7.5 billion-tonne kilometres (tkm) and therefore by 0.9 million tkm
For international goods receipt a decrease by 4.9% to 4.0 million t was reported and the international goods dispatch was reduced by 8.8% to 2.1 million t. Transit through Austria declined by 11.3% to 1.6 million t. For inland transport a growth of 134.5% to 0.6 million t was reported in the reference year.
In 2020 waterside trans-shipments by all ports on the Austrian section of the Danube rose by 4.0% to 7.2 million t.
