In the 1980s and 1990s, the number of marriages averaged 45 000 per annum. Following the post-war low recorded in 2001 (34 213), on average some 37 000 marriages were concluded annually during the 2000s until 2014. Since 2015 marriages of people with a main residence in Austria concluded abroad are also included in Austrian marriage statistics. The annual average number of marriages thus rose to 45 200 again.
