Vienna, 2020-09-02 – 16 319 divorces took place in Austria in 2019 according to Statistics Austria, a slight increase of 0.1% compared to 2018. In 2019, 121 registered partnerships were dissolved by court decision, 23 more than in the previous year (+23.5%).

Starting from 1 January 2019, data include divorces of same-sex couples (2019: four male and four female couples) and dissolutions of heterosexual registered partnerships (2019: two cases).

The total divorce rate of 40.7% in 2019 was slightly lower than in 2018 (41.0%).
