Medical Exams of Conscripts

Male Austrian citizens liable to military service have to undergo a medical examination to evaluate their fitness for military service, generally in the calendar year in which they complete their 18th year of age.

Looking at the birth cohort 2001, 77.5 per cent of Austrian conscripts were fit, 4.0 percent temporary unfit and 18.5 per cent unfit for military service. The average conscript was 178.4 cm tall and weighed 75.8 kg. 30.1 per cent of the conscripts were obese.
