Cancer in Austria: 357 781 cancer patients and 41 389 new cases

Vienna, 2020-01-30 – At the beginning of 2018, 357 781 persons suffering from a cancer disease lived in Austria, according to Statistics Austria. 41 389 new cancer cases were registered during 2017. The most common cancer types diagnosed in 2017 were breast, prostate, lung and colorectal cancer. Those tumour sites together were responsible for more than half of all new cancer cases. In 2017, 10 933 men and 9 215 women died from cancer. Therefore, about a quarter of all deaths in Austria were caused by cancer.
