Until now statements and discussions about the quantitative distribution of key skills (e.g. literacy) among adults in Austria relied on estimations and assumptions. This lack of data was closed, due to the participation of Austria in the Survey of Adult Skills, a product of the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC). For the first time, there is a valid source of data on adults’ proficiency in literacy, numeracy and problem-solving in technology-rich environments in Austria.
