Pipeline Transport

The survey on transport in pipelines covers inland transport, international receipt and dispatch as well as transit. It is conducted using voluntary reports by the pipeline operating companies. The rate of return constitutes 100% and the results are published annually. Due to confidentiality reasons it is not possible to distinct the results by type of transport.

Results

The transport volume of 67.1 million tonnes in the reporting year 2020 was 7.6 million tonnes respectively 10.1% lower than the reference value of the preceding year (2019: 74.7 million tonnes). A decrease of 8.3% to 35.5 million tonnes (2019: 38.7 million tonnes) was registered in transports of petroleum and products of petroleum and the volume of transported natural gas decreased by 12.1% to 31.6 million tonnes (2019: 36.0 million tonnes).

Transport performance (i.e. the product of transport volume and distance) showed a decrease of 1 313 million tonnes- kilometres (tkm) to 16 279 million tkm; 7.5% less compared to the year before (2019: 17 591 million tkm). The transport performance of petroleum and products of petroleum decreased by 9.9% to 7 715 million tkm (2019: 8 567 million tkm) and the transport performance of natural gas lost by 5.1% to 8 564 million tkm (2019: 9 024 million tkm).
