Freight and Postal Transport

In 2020, a total of 188 321 tonnes (t) of freight and a total of 6 605 t of mail were transported on 114 428 flight movements in commercial aviation (scheduled and non-scheduled transport) via the six Austrian international airports (including transit). Air freight registered a decrease by 23.8% compared to the previous year (247 200 t). Air mail dropped by 60.0% compared to 2019 (16 521 t).

The total freight volume (excluding transit) of 158 525 t declined by 25.3% (-53 636 t) compared to the previous year and transit transport fell from 35 038 t to 29 796 t (-5 242 t or -15.0%) in 2020. The volume of transported air mail (excluding transit) decreased to 6 493 t (-9 639 t or -59.8%) and transit transport dropped by 277 t to a total of 112 t in 2020.
