Almost a fifth fewer overnight stays in the 2019/20 winter season

The number of overnight stays for the entire winter season 2019/2020 (November to April) fell by 18.1% to 59.72 million and corresponds to the overnight stay volume of the 2006/07 winter season with 59.38 million overnight stays.
One fourth less nights spent in current calendar year 2020
The number of nights spent in the current calendar year 2020 (January to April) decreased by 24.9% to 42.30 million, the number of arrivals by 31.9% to 9.97 million.

Information
on methods: Within the scope of the monthly overnight statistics,
the arrivals and nights spent are provided by rented tourist accommodation
establishments in communities with more than 1 000 nights spent per year.
Thus, of the 2 095 Austrian communities, 1 566 reporting communities transmit
data to Statistics Austria monthly. The survey units are commercial and
private tourist accommodation establishments, which transmit their data
to the relevant reporting community by means of "Statistisches
Meldeblatt" or "Betriebsbogen" (for further information
related to methodology see "Standarddokumentation".
The winter season considers the period November until April, the summer
season the period May until October.
