Within Regional Accounts, the following aggregates are calculated for the 35 Austrian NUTS 3 regions in accordance with the ESA 2010 transmission programme: gross value added at basic prices (current prices), total employment and employees. Additionally, gross regional product (GRP = regional GDP) is provided.
Total employment and employees are provided here as number of jobs. A representation in number of persons can be provided on request. NUTS 3 data are available for a breakdown of six industry groups (A, B-E, F, G-J, K-N, O-T).
According to the latest calculations of Statistics Austria, GRP per inhabitant at current prices in 2018 ranged between €55 700 (Salzburg und Umgebung) and €23 900 (Weinviertel). Regional Accounts data are compiled in compliance with ESA 2010 and are consistent with the annual National Accounts published in September 2020.
In 2018, Salzburg und Umgebung reached the highest GRP per inhabitant, ahead of Linz-Wels (€54 900). They were followed by Vienna (€51 300), Wiener Umland Südteil (€51 200), and Graz (€50 400). The northern and (south-)eastern peripheral regions still held the lowest levels of GRP per capita, with €23 900 in Weinviertel, €26 700 in Mittelburgenland, and €27 600 in Südburgenland.
Please note that GRP relates to the place of production (place of work), whereas the population figures used for calculating GRP per capita relate to the place of residence, i.e. transregional commuter movements are not taken into account. (Provincial) capitals, for example, are traditional regions to which employees are commuting in.
