– A total of 66 654 enterprises in
the entire industry and construction sector
(+1.3% compared to the previous year) turned over €154.6 bn (-11.9%)
from January to July 2020,
according to calculations by Statistics Austria. The working-day adjusted
turnover for industry and construction decreased by 12.0%. These figures
coupled with a slightly decreasing employment (1 006 447 persons, -0.9%).
In July 2020 turnover decreased by 5.8%
compared to the same month of the previous year (working-day adjusted:
-5.9%).
At establishment level
(67 218 establishments, +1.2%), sold production decreased by 12.0% (working-day
adjusted: -12.2%) in comparison to previous year's level and amounted
to €152.2 bn in nominal terms (employing 1 005 962 persons, -0.8%). With
€125.5 bn in nominal terms, industrial production sold fell by 13.6%
compared to the previous year. Compared to the same month last year
(July 2019), sold production declined by 5.9% (working-day adjusted:
also -5.9%) in industry and construction.
The 36 753 Austrian construction
establishments (+1.9%) achieved a production sold of €26.7 bn in the
reporting period January to July 2020. This corresponds to a decrease
of 4.0% in nominal terms (working-day adjusted: -4.2%) compared to the
previous year. In July 2020 production sold fell by 3.0% (working-day
adjusted: -3.1%).
At the end of July 2020, Austrian construction companies
(not including construction auxiliary trades) had orders booked totalling
about €16.5 bn (-1.5% year-over-year).
The flash estimates
of Statistics Austria for industry and construction (ÖNACE B to F) for September 2020
shows an increase in the turnover index (+2.1%), the index of persons
employed (-0.3%) and the index of hours worked (-0.7%) still have a negative
development to the same month of the previous year. If the industrial
sector is considered separately from construction, the turnover index
shows an increase in industry (+1.8 %) and in construction (+3.3%).
The index of hours worked shows a decline in industry (-2.1%), while
construction again shows a positive development (+3.7%). This is also
reflected in the index of persons employed (industry -1.2%; construction
+2.9%).
