– The industrial producer price index,
IPPI 2015, reached 100.0 points in May 2020,
representing a price decrease of 2.7% compared to May 2019, as Statistics Austria
reports. In April 2020 and March 2020, the annual rates of change had
been -2.4% and -1.5%, respectively. The downward trend in producer prices
for industrial products thus continued in May 2020. Between April 2020
and May 2020, the industrial producer price index fell by 0.5%.
The decrease of the industrial producer price index
in May 2020 (-2.7%) was mainly due to low prices in the energy sector
(-10.3%) and for intermediate goods (-2.3%). The prices for capital goods
increased by 0.9% in May 2020 and those for consumer goods by 1.1%.
